Yamagi Quake 2 is a Source port for Quake 2 created by Yamagi Burmeister, focusing more on the original experience, while adding bug fixes and improvements, such as better support for 64-bit systems, and external music support.

It is recommended for those looking for a vanilla-ish experience. Specific patches are hosted to support The Reckoning, Ground Zero and Zaero.

Features[]

  • Anisotropic filtering
  • Most mods are compatible
  • New improved savegame system.
  • Full 64 bit support
  • External music without the need for a CD can be played back (further details below.)
  • Full ipv6 support
  • Multisampled antialiasing
  • OpenAL support (Can be disabled)
  • Sdl 1.2 and Sdl 2.0 for rendering and input
  • Support for unlimited screen sizes and resolutions
  • Widescreen support

External Music[]

The source port supports external music files, meaning the Quake II Soundtrack can be used without the original CD's audio files. OGG is recommended for music playback. Go here for both Quake and Quake II's soundtracks. In order to playback the music ingame, create a new folder named "music" inside the baseq2 folder located inside the root Quake II directory. Place all the OGG files in there and voila. The same procediment may also apply for other source ports such as KMQuake 2.
