It all comes down to this - Bitterman has reached the Makron's inner sanctum and is determined to destroy the Strogg leader no matter the cost.
As the Makron flees his palace, the final battle takes place in a secluded asteroid base where the cunning Strogg has prepared one final surprise for the persistent marine.
