Quake II Mission Pack: The Reckoning is an official mission pack released for Quake 2, developed by Xatrix Entertainment Inc. and released in May 27, 1998.

Plot[]

Main Article: Quake II Mission Pack: The Reckoning Story

The Reckoning follows Joker, a member of an elite squad of marines on a mission to infiltrate the Moon Base and destroy the Strogg Fleet there, which is preparing to attack. Joker crash lands in the Swamps outside the compound where his squad mates are waiting. Joker travels through the swamps and bypasses the compounds outer defenses and enters through the main gate. Joker finds his squad just in time to watch them get obliterated by Strogg forces. Joker escapes on his own to the fuel refinery where he helps the Air Force destroy all fuel production. Afterwards, Joker infiltrates the Strogg spaceport, boards a cargo ship and reaches the Moon Base, destroying it and the fleet.

Units[]

In the 2023 remaster, the Strogg Freighter level was removed from Unit 4 and now comprises Unit 5 by itself, with the moon base being Unit 6.

However, one Gekk is still missing from Badlands on Easy difficulty. Furthermore, while Brains would be more accurately described as Beta Class Brains in the original release, as of the 2023 remaster they are now the same thing.

Reception[]

The game received mostly positive review scores with Gamerankings rating it 69.50%, noting that The Reckoning expands the gameplay of Quake II but does nothing spectacular about it. [2]
