—The Reckoning Manual
The Phalanx Particle Cannon is a powerful, pump-action double-barreled slug launcher obtained in The Reckoning. Though it is a tad less accurate than the Rocket Launcher, it fires two projectiles, which together do more damage (splash damage included) than a single rocket.
- The Phalanx is useful for bombarding stronger, slower moving Enemies such as Tanks and Gladiators with constant, potent damage. If both slugs hit or hit in the direct vicinity, one mag slug will deal 75 damage, two slugs will double up to 150 damage against the enemy, the same as the Railgun.
- This weapon really shines against the Gladiator (Beta Class), as it only takes about eight direct hits on them for a kill. They often drop boxes of ten mag slugs as well, often resulting in a positive boost in ammo when compared to the use of other weapons.
- As the slugs deal splash damage as well, the Phalanx works nicely against tight clusters of Guards. A solid hit with both slugs on a Gekk is a one-shot kill.
- Two slugs can be aimed at separate targets by moving the cursor directly after the first slug has been launched. However, it can be argued that this is very difficult technique to be used practically, as the player has less than a second to aim the second slug, and so actually hitting two targets this way requires a lot of practice and tends to be a waste of ammo and time when confronting powerful enemies that require more than one slug to be killed. Perfecting this technique, however, can turn the player into a very lethal war machine when faced with multiple enemies.
