—Fritzkrieg, insulting his opponent

Fritzkrieg is a playable character and the first Tournament challenge player faces in Quake III: Team Arena. Players face him at the House of Decay map.

He favors the Railgun and the Rocket Launcher more but if he can't find them he'll use the Lightning Gun and BFG10K instead. Fritz is a full metal freak who never walks around without armor. If you can't locate him as soon as possible when he respawns, always assume that he's armored.

Fritzkrieg's appearance and story are a clear reference to id Software's Wolfenstein series of first-person shooters.

Quake 3 Team Arena Bio[]

During Earth's Second World War, Fritzkrieg was a brutal and deadly member of the German army. When the Vadrigar claimed him, however, they were a second too late. Instead of a healthy new warrior for the Arena Eternal, they found themselves in possession of a handful of shattered corpses–all that remained after an Allied shell had torn apart Fritzkrieg and his companions. Undaunted, they pieced together the intact elements of the various bodies to form a horrific collage of flesh and blood–with a mind as shattered as the bodies it had once occupied.

Strategies[]

Fritzkrieg never walks around without armor, because his arena is full of small Armor Shard pickups. If you want to beat him fast and efficiently, burn his armor down and keep an eye on the Light Armor at the center of the arena. If the player is good at it, they can give ear to the armor shard pickup noise and locate Fritzkrieg easily. There are several armor goodies in this map and just a few yellow +25 health globes. All of the health pickups are scattered around the center of the arena and LG room.

Once you enter the arena, grab the Light Armor, don't waste time, and head for the Lightning Gun room where you'll find more armor shards. If Fritzkrieg gets the first Light Armor pickup, care to time the next one. Follow the bounce point and gather more goodies; once you reach the center again, head for the teleporter room this time, as you'll find more armor shards there. The teleporter will send you to the center of the arena where light armor resides. Pick it up again and let the cycle begin again.

If Fritz is buffed, the Lightning Gun or Plasma Gun are good choices to keep him down. If the map contains lots of narrow corridors and large stairs; using the Rocket Launcher would be a smart move to disorient Fritzkrieg and corner him.
