The Guard House serves as the barracks of the various Strogg guards that patrol the Jail Unit. Security is tight, especially since the command center houses the Pyramid Key. There is also a small detention block with several prisoners in the area.

A section of the facility has been ruined due to seismic activity, and lava has begun to flood some of the chambers.

This level marks the first appearance of the Mutant. It is also the first opportunity to acquire a Hyperblaster and an Ammo Pack, unless the player visited the Torture Chambers first.

Secrets

  • Pc icon #1) In the room with the staircases going down, blow up the barrels directly in front of you and below to blow open a small portion of wall that you can crouch under to grab an Ammo Pack and Health.
  • Pc icon #2) In the outside area immediately after the room containing Secret #1, you will see a ramp on both sides of you as well as a piece of stone wall in the corner wall that is jutting out ever so slightly; push this stone in to lower the left ramp, revealing a secret Adrenaline.
  • Pc icon #3) From the last secret, jump down to the lower level in this outside area and head to the doorway that contains the Mutant running around in it. Clear the enemies in here and go down to the pair of doors; you will see that the one on the right is partially blown open; crouch under here and follow the path to the last secret, containing a Large Health and a Grenade Launcher.

PSX version:

  • PS1 icon #1) In the room with the staircase going down, look at the wall on the upper level to your right. It can be opened to reveal two Cell pickups.

Differences in the PSX version

  • Different enemy count and secrets (see above). Most notably, no Mutants are found in the PSX version at all.
  • The level doesn't contain a Hyperblaster or Ammo Pack. A Hyperblaster can be found in the Torture Chambers, but an Ammo Pack won't be obtained until Defense Command.
  • The water pool in the outer courtyard contains a Quad Damage rather than a Megahealth.
  • The explosive crate in the room leading to the command center contains a Megahealth rather than an Adrenaline.
  • The subterranean passages near the command center contain different items, but no Power Shield.

Bugs

  • In the PSX version, the difficulty settings are inconsistent - Easy contains more Strogg forces than Medium. This is one of five levels in the PSX campaign with this issue.
