Viper is a human marine and protagonist of the Nintendo 64 version of Quake II, sent on a separate mission from the other three protagonists: Bitterman, Joker, and Stepchild.

Biography[]

Not only one of the hundreds of Space Marine Corps, forces under the Terran Coalition of Man, deployed in the The First Invasion of Stroggos. Viper is Special Operations among the Space Marine Corps, dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a reconnaissance mission of the Strogg's home planet. The method of deployment for Viper is unclear, as there is no visible SMC Drop Pod, unlike for other Space Marines.

Viper was deployed to a small base on Stroggos in order to infiltrate it and upload the contents of a data disk to central command. From there he proceeded to infiltrate and destroy the Strogg Orbital Defense Platform, hijacked a freighter to escape onto Stroggos' moon, where he infiltrated and destroyed the Zaxite Mines. From there, he teleported back to Stroggos' surface and made his way through through a Processing Center and Detention Center on his way to the Command Core far below ground, which he then also destroys before returning to the surface.

Notes[]

  • The name "Viper" is only used as the default name for players in the original Nintendo 64 version, and is never referenced in the game campaign itself. As such, not only could the name and appearance be changed in the game's options menu, but Viper is never referenced by name in the Quake II 2023 Remaster.
