In the Quake series, Armor is a Powerup that absorbs a certain amount of any damage (including any caused from drowning in Quake). When an Armor is picked up, the player gains a certain amount of Armor points depending on how much of an Armor is used. In Quake and Quake 2, the absorption rate depends on the type of Armor, but in Quake 3 and 4, all Armor absorbs 2/3 of an attack.

Furthermore, though the Pentagram of Protection will protect one from injury, it will not conserve Armor. This means that the drawback of that Powerup is that it is possible to lose Armor without knowing the amount one has (due to the counter reading "666" for the length of time that the the Pentagram of Protection is in use).

From Quake 2 on, Armor Shards can be used to "repair" damaged Armor or stack enough shards to "make" new Armor.
