—Cortez[1]

Corporal Alejandro "Alex" Cortez is a 22-year-old Rhino Squad sharpshooter from Mexico City, Mexico.

Biography[]

Cortez grew up on his family's ranch, where he began an early life hunting jackrabbits. During the first Strogg attack on Earth, Cortez joined the Space Marine Corps for revenge. He was assigned to Rhino Squad after he single-handedly defended a communications outpost with a pistol, killing fourteen Strogg with thirteen bullets.

Second Invasion of Stroggos[]

On Stroggos, Cortez defended the flank of Rhino Squad, dramatically killing three Strogg with his rifle and notifying Kane on the location of the rest of Rhino Squad. While present on the Death convoy, Cortez is not involved in the Tetranode attack. During Operation: Last Hope, Cortez steals a tram and helps Kane reach the data processing tower. He is last seen on the Hannibal after Kane destroyed Nexus, congratulating him.

Trivia[]

  • Cortez is five foot seven inches (170.18 cm) tall and one hundred and forty five pounds (65.772 kg), making him the shortest and the second lightest member of Rhino Squad (the lightest being Strauss). At twenty two, he is also the third youngest.
  • Cortez' relative sparseness in Quake 4 is most likely due to his overpowered unique weapon (possibly a modified Machine gun), which can accurately kill most enemies in a few shots.
  • He and Cpl. Rhodes had a bet on whether Kane survived the crash at the beginning of the game or not, this is implied in the conversation between him and Cpl. Rhodes.
